The importance of Athletics
Athletics is a mixture of different sports including running, jumping, throwing,
and sprinting. Athletics originated in ancient Greece, where it was practiced as early
as 776 B.C with the first Olympic Games, but its modern form was born in England at
the beginning of the nineteenth century. Martina Caironi is an Italian athlete. She was
born in 1989 in Alzano Lombardo, and now she lives in Bologna. In 2007, when she
was just 18 years old she was hit by a car while riding her scooter home. The accident
resulted in the amputation of her left leg. She continued her athletic career and won
two gold medals and three silver medals at the paralympic games.
